Resonanzen
Text
Jens Mennicke’s colorful artworks from the Resonanzen series speak a universal language that transcends words and directly touches human emotion. They invite viewers to immerse themselves in the depths of color, to explore the subtle nuances of light and shadow, and to open up a personal space for interpretation. The way colored surfaces dissolve into soft transitions and vivid contrasts creates a dense, dynamic atmosphere that seems to fill the room and draw the observer into a state of meditative reflection. In Resonanzen, Mennicke condenses color, light, and space into an almost immaterial experience. The images are devoid of form, motif, or center — yet precisely through this absence they generate quiet intensity. Chromatic fields meet, overlap, and breathe into one another. These transitional zones, where color transforms into light and light into spatial depth, become the true resonance chamber of the works.
Rooted in the tradition of 1950s and 1960s Color Field painting — where color ceased to depict and became pure state — Mennicke translates this painterly language into the digital realm. Here, light is not reflected but synthetically produced; the gesture of the brush replaced by algorithmic precision that nonetheless conveys emotional depth.
The result is a form of digital spiritualism: images that oscillate between technical clarity and meditative stillness. Resonanzen reveals color as a phenomenon in its own right — liberated from object, meaning, and material constraint.
