In his “Remix” series, the architect and artist Mehdi Yassery shows imaginative and surreal architectural solitaires and landscapes.
In the tradition of paper architecture, Yassery samples and collages various elements and fragments from modernist architectural set pieces to create new abstract compositions—initially as colored freehand drawings on paper; later in strictly constructed, monochrome architectural drawings.
In the process, the physical limits of architecture are playfully overcome; they become secondary when the knowledge of architectural-historical references and connections stimulates the imagination to create new forms and chance provokes new architectural statements in visual experiments. His compositions are an artistic remix that interweaves the past with the new, the seen with the original to create a bold new architectural vision. The complexity and often surprising combinations in his drawings are an invitation to rediscover and reinterpret architectural reality.
